HabitNu and the Cincinnati Sports Club Partner to Reduce Risk of Type-2 Diabetes in Cincinnati

Hamilton County, OH

HabitNu, a CDC recognized national provider of the Diabetes Preventative Program and a leader in diabetes self-management, is proud to announce their newest partnership with the Cincinnati Sports Club.

Diabetes represents a significant burden in the state of Ohio. Nearly 700,000 Ohio adults (7.5 percent) have been diagnosed with prediabetes, and 1.3 million have prediabetes but don’t know it. Without intervention, more than half of them will develop type-2 diabetes within five years. These statistics are alarming, and the impact on the cost of health care makes preventing the number of new cases of type 2 diabetes more important than ever before. The good news is diabetes is largely preventable through healthy lifestyle measures like healthy diet and exercise.

The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) curriculum, developed by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), is the most effective method to prevent individuals with pre-diabetes from becoming full-fledged diabetics. HabitNu DPP is modeled after CDC’s National Diabetes Prevention Program and comprises a personalized lifestyle change program that combines a private online social network, health coaching, evidence-based curriculum, and digital tools to help people live happier and healthier lives. This intervention strategy is now a fully covered preventive service for all Medicare beneficiaries.

In a joint effort to reverse the course of diabetes, the Cincinnati Sports Club has partnered with HabitNu, to provide its nationally accredited services at their club in Cincinnati. The Cincinnati Sports Club has served Cincinnati’s east side and the surrounding communities for over 30 years and has continued to differentiate themselves from other facilities in town. The Club, which is a top ranked health and wellness facility in the City, has constantly evolved to accommodate the needs of its members. In recent years, as its members needs have changed, the Club has added a range of wellness services including a weight management program, health screenings, Parkinson’s and cancer programs, and therapeutic physical therapy services.

“One in three adults has prediabetes, so the need for prevention has never been greater,” said Business Unit Manager, Phil Norton. “By expanding our focus to include lifestyle change and diabetes prevention, we now have the ability to provide a CDC recognized DPP program to our members and also reach more individuals in our community that might be at risk for prediabetes to addresses their specific needs outside of the normal physical fitness realm”. Partnering with HabitNu will allow the Cincinnati Sports Club to provide its members and the Cincinnati community with a leg up on lifestyle change.
